The summer Tollwood is back! The motto of this year’s festival is “Clear to the turn”. Various music acts, cultures from around the world and performances by various groups can be marveled at.
The very first Tollwood Festival took place in the summer of 1988. This tradition still continues today – because nothing beats a festival in a beautiful summer month. The Tollwood is supposed to show the multicultural society of the city. That’s why the diversity of cultures is in first place. Tolerance and openness are written large here.
The Tollwood
The summer festival starts this year on 16 June and ends on 17 July 2022. As every year, the Summer Tollwood takes place in the Olympiapark Süd. Arriving by public transport is also quite easy and doesn’t take long. But remember: there is no parking!
And what about the entrance fee? Here is good news! Everyone can come to the festival area! In itself, all activities are free, but for some concerts, especially for the bigger acts, you need tickets.

Things to Discover
The Tollwood is known for its diversity and versatile cultures. Jewelry, handicrafts and clothing from all over the world can be admired and bought here. Especially many jewelry exhibitors are represented, showing their wide range of different designs. Most of the exhibitors work with precious stones, natural materials and offer high quality and fairly produced jewelry.
But the material things are not the only fascinating thing about Tollwood. The many food and drink stands are also always popular. Culinarians can get food from all over the world here. In addition to that, hobby cooks can also buy something for their own kitchen here. The “Herb Farmer” is a booth full of organic herb spice blends, oils and more. Their products are sustainable and are highly concentrated, meaning that even a small amount has a lot of flavor. If you like it sweet, you should visit the store for vegan organic chocolate. In the “Africa Shop” on the other hand, you will find various cocoa, tea and spice blends.
who is performing?
One of the many special features of Tollwood are the breathtaking performances and live music. Every day, artists from a wide variety of musical genres perform in the music arena. In addition to German icons, regional bands and even international personalities can be expected.
Rea Garvey – the judge on “The Voice of Germany” – had the honour of starting the festival. His loyal fan base had the opportunity to hear his new album ,,Hy Brasil” live and was not dissapointed.
Almost two weeks later, the pop rapper Cro was on stage. He had been passionate about music since he was a child and learned to play the guitar and piano. He had his breakthrough in 2011 with the song ,,Easy”. Since then he has been successful and celebrated in the music scene. He has made a name for himself with his hits like ,,Einmal um die Welt” and ,,Bad Chick”. His latest album ,,trip” is full of pop-rap songs – the typical Cro sound.

Visiting the Tollwood is definitely a must. Not only the attractions and the music acts, but also the variety of different cultures are worth seeing. The shopkeepers’ homemade accessories and food make good gifts or souvenirs. It’s a pity that Tollwood only goes on for a month.
