Burger, fries and milkshakes. That’s what a typical American burger restaurant offers. The US burger stores Five Guys is open since 1986, but only a few weeks ago the first store opened in Germany. But what makes the popular Five Guys from the USA so special?
The history of the foundation
The married couple Janie and Jerry Murrell opened the first restaurant in 1986 in Arlington, near Washington D. C.. The couple has four sons and the men of the family gave their name to the famous fast food chain. Because father and four sons make five together – the name Five Guys was born. Later a sixth son and about 1500 branches worldwide were added. Five Guys has now opened its first German branch in Munich.
You have to eat 684 years daily at Five Guys to test all the possible creations.
Four standard burger variants are available for less than ten euros: Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Bacon Burger, as well as a Bacon Cheeseburger. Optionally, there are also smaller portions with less meat for two euros less. The various toppings, such as gherkins, grilled mushrooms or onions, jalapenos, peppers and various sauces doesn’t cost extra.
At some point they calculated how many combinations would be possible with Five Guys: 250,000 – so for 684 years you would have to eat one variant a day to have tried them all.
It’s the freshness
At Five Guys everything is freshly prepared, there are no freezers around and there are no thawed out products, as you know it from many other burger chains. Potatoes are cut into chips fresh several times a day and fried in peanut oil. The employees always write up-to-date on a small board where the potatoes come from.
Five Guys also has a special feature for drinks: There is one prize and you get a paper cup for it, which you can fill yourself as often as you want at a tap machine. The “Freestyle” beverage vending machine allows more than 100 variations, such as strawberry sprite. It’s also crazy that you can drink milkshakes with bacon at Five Guys.
