These jeans brands focus on sustainable fashion, but without sacrificing quality and style.
Denim has been shaping the fashion industry for more than 100 years and the image of future trends and subcultures will continue to be inspired by this fabric. Unfortunately, denim has also earned a reputation as one of the most environmentally unfriendly materials that can be used in clothing. It is estimated that between 2,000 and 7,000 liters of water are needed to make a single pair of jeans.
Fortunately, some manufacturers have recognized this problem and have found ways to make the production of denim goods more sustainable. This is not just about using organic cotton, but about optimizing all process steps from the selection of employees, to fabrics, to delivery routes. Here are some luxury brands that will secure the future of jeans.
Outland Denim
Less chemicals, less water and less energy – Outland Denim not only aims to make the production of jeans greener, but also stands for strong social values. In terms of looks the pants are a real eye-catcher and even good enough for the Dutchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.
Re/Done
Since 2014, Re/Done describes itself not as a “denim brand” but as “a movement to bring individualism back to the world of luxury fashion, a movement to ensure that heritage brands remain relevant and a movement to create sustainable fashion.
As the name suggests, old jeans are “re-done”. Old Levi’s jeans are completely disassembled and reassembled in Los Angeles to create unique denim jeans.
A second hand approach combined with distinctive design.
Nudie Jeans
With a recycling and repair program, this Swedish company focuses on the reuse of old nudie jeans. New jeans are made from 100 percent organic materials and if something tears or needs fixing, customers can have their jeans repaired free of charge in Nudie stores.
