What could be better than having your own ice cream in this hot weather? Always enjoy a freezer and a delicious ice cream as you like. Make your own ice cream – too complicated? Nothing there! We’ll show you what to watch out for!
The most important tip: The ingredients should be fresh and as natural as possible. Otherwise, you won’t need much to make your own ice cream. You need a liquid as a base: milk, almond milk, soy milk, cream, crème fraîche, yoghurt, sour cream or kefir. They are the optimal flavour carriers. You also need sugar and eggs. As an alternative to sugar, you can also use maple syrup, caramel or honey. Fresh fruits and nuts are also a must, frozen fruits are also suitable here. And finally the right spices: vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon or coffee are suitable for touching. If you’re more experimental, let your creativity run wild with chilli, eucalyptus, pepper, lavender, anise and ginger. There are no limits here!

Make your own ice cream – with or without an ice cream machine?
With some time and patience you can make your own ice cream without a machine. Just find a suitable recipe on the internet or use our basic recipe. Then prepare the ingredients and let them cool in the fridge. Then you mix everything and put it in a cooled, large bowl and put it in the freezer. After about 1 hour the mixture is frozen and must be stirred well with a spoon. By regularly undercoating the air, about every 20 minutes, a creamy, loose ice cream is formed.
If you want it to be a little faster and more comfortable, then use an ice machine. Prepare the ingredients according to the recipe and cool to 6°C in the refrigerator. Then put everything in the ice-cream maker and the machine will do the rest of the work for you. Done!

The base
For a delicious vanilla ice cream: Put milk and cream in a saucepan. Halve the vanilla pod, scrape out the marrow and add the marrow and pod. Heat until the cream-milk mixture almost boils. Put aside. Beat the egg yolk and sugar with a blender until light yellow at the highest speed. Add a thin stream of hot cream milk to the egg mixture, continuing to mix until everything is well mixed. Place the bowl in a water bath and heat the mixture to 75-85 °C and remove from the heat. Place the mixture in a bowl with ice water and allow to cool, stirring occasionally. When the mixture is cold, put it in the freezer and stir every 30 minutes until everything is frozen, or let it freeze in the ice machine for about 1 hour. Done! Most ice cream recipes for milk ice cream and fruit ice cream use this basic recipe. You can refine them with your own ingredients.
Ice Variations
You want to vary? Whether the ice cream classics, such as vanilla, chocolate or strawberry, a frozen yoghurt, parfait or sorbet, perhaps rather an ice cream on a stick? No problem. Everything is relatively easy to implement. It’s all the more fun if you keep trying out new tastes and variations. By the way: toppings like chopped nuts, chocolate sauces and sprinkles round off your ice cream variations. Go crazy and treat yourself to a delicious cooling – homemade!
