THE GUA SHA TREND – WHAT EXACTLY IS IT AND IS THE HYPE WORTH IT?

youDRESSED Editor

From time to time, the word Gua-Sha has been mentioned here and there. But what is behind the term and what makes it a trend?

As it is often the case, TikTok is responsible for one or the other trend. The age group of 15-18 year olds in particular is well aware of it, whereas the older ones usually just shrug their shoulders. It is similar with the Gua-Shan trend. In the following article, all those who previously could not do anything with it, learn more about the term.

Where is the term Gua She from?

Where does Gua Sha actually come from? That’s probably what many people are wondering. Especially since there is no English origin for the term. Originally, the word comes from Asia – more precisely, from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). “Gua” means to stroke, while “Sha” means redness. Put together, it then means something along the lines of ‘stroking over redness’.

Why Gua Sha?

The big question here is: Why would anyone apply Gua Sha? The reason is quite simple. The new TikTok trend shows us the benefits of this massage. Apparently, this facial massage promotes lymphatic drainage, relieves inflammation and swelling such as that after getting up.

The right Application

The Gua Sha is designed to massage all facial zones. These rounded corners are specially made for the edges of the face. Also, the ‘pointed’ end is to be used for the acupuncture points and the claw curve is perfect for your jaw. The longest edge side is for contouring your face.

The most important thing is that you never use the Gua Sha on dry skin! Moisturizer, facial oil or serum should be the first step.

The main rule: always start from the inside to the outside! Start at the nape of your neck and gently stroke the stone from the bottom to the top. Then go to the chin and stroke the stone to the hairline. Here it is important that the stone is not at a 90 degree angle, but that it is as flat as possible against the skin.

Rose Quartz Gua Sha

The Gua Sha stones come in many different colors – and who would have thought it: each color also has a specific function and can be used for different purposes.

So it is said that the rose quartz color is the energy stone and this color is said to relieve tension and even stress – even anxiety can be solved by means of this color. Because it is not for nothing that the psyche and skin influence each other.

Jade Gua Sha

And what does the green Gua Sha stone have to offer? According to traditional Chinese medicine, the jade stone has healing energy. In addition, the stone brings prosperity and good luck. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

Another name for the crystal jade is also “natural detoxer” and apparently works very closely with the liver. This Gua Sha stone helps the body to bring the blood circulation up to speed.

Amethyst Gua Sha

One of the nobler stones is the amethyst – It stands for creativity and protection. It is also said that this stone helps you to free yourself from negative patterns.

Besides the previous benefits, this Gua Sha can also relieve inflammation. With all the positive effects, it is no wonder when the purple stone quickly gets the favorite status.

Among other things, it tightens the skin during application and gives a younger complexion with fewer wrinkles, which at the same time still radiates and relaxes you.

Amethyst is useful for people suffering from acne and inflammation. It is also very helpful for sallow and dull skin!

In the stressful everyday life it is important to switch off. Massages, self and skin care are very important. Just a few minutes in the evening are enough to treat yourself with the Gua Sha Facial. It is absolutely recommended to incorporate this technique into your evening routine.
