Carnival is to the Rhinelanders what Oktoberfest is to the Bavarians. On the 11.11, at 11:11 a.m., the cheerful Jecken ring in their fifth season. But every year the same question arises: Which costume should I wear?
People have been celebrating Carnival for many thousands of years. In the historical context, it is the celebration that prepares the population for the upcoming Lent, which lasts until Easter. Nowadays, few people tune in to Lent, but celebrate extensively in colorful costumes. Even if there are no big celebrations due to the current Corona situation, we would still like to bring a little carnival atmosphere home to you with our tips. And who knows, maybe one or the other idea will even be your costume for next year.
Giraffe
Carnival costumes don’t always have to be extravagant. The simpler, the less stress in advance. Our first idea is a perfect example of this. To dress up as a giraffe, all you need is a good touch to conjure up some fancy makeup on your face. But here are the details for the costume:
Outfit:
For the outfit you only need white sneakers, white leggings, a white shirt and a brown jacket. Alternatively, there is the possibility to paint brown spots on the white leggings and the white shirt. In order to do this you only need a brown felt tip pen.
Hair & Makeup:
As already mentioned, this requires good makeup skills. A professional makeup case is absolutely not necessary for this. It is totally fine if you use a brown eye shadow, brown eyebrow pencil or a bronzer. In the next step, paint small to medium-sized triangles and squares around your eyes up to your temples with a thin brush or, if necessary, the eyebrow pencil.
And finally, the hair needs to be done. To do this, divide your hair into two sides and form two small buns out of the top hair.

Pineapple

With this costume, you will put a smile on everyone’s face during the cold carnival days – just because of the color of <our outfit. Just like the giraffe, the pineapple doesn’t require much effort. You can get everything you need for it at the stationery store and the nearest drugstore.
The following materials are useful for the outfit:
- 2 sheets of green clay cardboard
- An empty kitchen roll
- A headband
- A hot glue gun
- Green paint
- A yellow dress
Your kitchen roll forms the green trunk of the pineapple. First, paint it green and wait until the paint has dried. In the meantime, cut long and short pointed leaves out of the green paper and glue them to the green kitchen roll. Then, using the hot glue gun, glue the cardboard craft onto the headband. In case the yellow dress is too cold for you, you can wear tights underneath or a yellow jumpsuit.
Money Heist
One of the most popular shows is Money Heist. Since season one, millions of fans all over the world have been rooting for the main characters. Why not take over the role of Tokyo, Nairobi and friends? The costume also has all kinds of advantages. For one thing, it keeps you warm at all times. Carnival is known to be in a rather cooler time of year, so it doesn’t hurt to dress up a little more. Furthermore, the mask allows you to remain largely undetected, which can be an advantage.
You can easily get the red jumpsuit and the mask on the Internet. It’s best to wear a white T-shirt underneath. As for footwear, we recommend black boots, which round off the cool look.

Whether it’s carnival or fasching – many have fun dressing up and taking on a different role. Costumes therefore do not always have to be extravagant. Especially not if you only wear them once or twice.
