ECOLOGICAL LEISURE: SUSTAINABLE activities FOR A BETTER FUTURE

youDRESSED Editor

In our fast-paced everyday lives, it is important to consciously take time for ourselves and pursue hobbies that bring us joy. But how can we organise our leisure time without putting unnecessary strain on the environment?

The focus is on leisure activities that are not only fun but also make a positive contribution. This article presents various sustainable activities and tips on how to organise one’s leisure time in an environmentally conscious way.

Cooking / MEAL PREPPING

Cooking can be a sustainable activity as it allows us to make more conscious choices about the food we consume. For example, cooking allows us to choose seasonal and regional products that require less transport and storage and therefore have a lower environmental impact.

Meal prepping can help reduce food waste. By planning and preparing meals in advance, you can shop according to need and ensure that food is not wasted.

You cook a large portion on one day and can then divide it up over a few days. In this way, the consumption of convenience food and fast food can be reduced at the same time.

INDOOR GREENING

Indoor greening is a hobby that is not only fun, but also good for our environment. Indoor plants can improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and producing oxygen. They can also help regulate humidity and thus improve the indoor climate. In addition, plants can also increase well-being and reduce stress.

The advantage of this activity is that you have the possibility to decorate your home individually with plants. There is no limit to how many and where you put the plants.

The best plants for your home garden would be, for example, the monocot, the indoor fern or the evergreen tropical plant ivy. These plants have a lot to offer in the area of air freshening.

UPCYCLING

Upcycling is more than just a creative pastime. Here, old or unused objects, furniture or clothes are transformed into new, useful or decorative objects. This extends the life of materials and reduces waste.

Another advantage of upcycling is that it can help reduce the consumption of new products. By reusing unused things and giving them a new life, resources can be conserved and the environmental impact of producing new products is reduced.

There is no end to creativity here, as there are always enough things that can be upgraded. Upcycling is therefore a great way to actively contribute to environmental protection and at the same time be imaginative – turn old into new!

VOLUNTARY WORK

Volunteering is a great opportunity to give back to the world and leave a positive impact on the community. There are many ways to volunteer – from supporting environmental and animal welfare organisations to working with children and the elderly.

By investing your time and energy in projects that aim to improve the lives of others, you help bring about positive change in society. This can also help raise awareness of important issues and inspire others to get involved as well.

As you can see, sustainability also works in leisure time! It plays an important role and every individual can also contribute to a better future through their own hobbies.
