FERRARI 250 GTO BERLINETTA 1962
A GTO worth 32.24 million euros. GTO is the name of a Ferrari homologation model for races in the GT class. The characteristic vehicle with semicircular air intakes is considered one of the most beautiful Ferraris. The seller, Fabrizio Violati, is one of the most famous Ferrari collectors worldwide. The Ferrari 250 GTO is a very rare car, only 39 examples were built, of it however only 28 with the classical body and a 3-Liter-V12-engine, which are considered under Puristen as “genuine GTO”.

Another GTO from Modena. This model was auctioned in 2013 for the equivalent of 41.07 million euros. It was allegedly acquired by a Spanish collector. 36 copies were built, many of them were victoriously used at international races and all built GTO models are still in good condition today.

And the winner is, how could it be otherwise: another GTO from Modena. This model was auctioned at RM Sotheby’s Auction as part of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on 24/25 August 2018. And for a paltry 48.4 million US dollars, that is the equivalent of 41.7 million euros. This makes the Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta, built in 1962, currently the most expensive car in the world. Until recently, the collector’s item belonged to Greg Whitten, who made his fortune as a Microsoft programmer and invested the money in vintage cars. We think not a bad investment!
