16 Mar Fair, casual, sustainable: you should know these sneaker labels

The shoe industry is also increasingly responding to the call for sustainability. Many labels are now attaching great importance to fair production. However, this does not mean that the price is correspondingly higher – on the contrary: the sustainable sneakers from Veja, Ethletic & Co. are not more expensive than well-known brands such as Nike. We present three sustainable sneaker labels that can definitely keep up with traditional brands.
Veja: Trendy slow fashion sneaker
Following the philosophy of Slow Fashion, the Veja label wants to produce shoes that can still be worn in ten years time. The Fairtrade certified shoes are produced in Brazil and contain materials such as canvas, organic cotton and natural rubber, a plant-based leather. The recyclable cartons in which Veja’s products are packed are a particular plus.
Ethletic: Skate-sneaker meets old-school-sneaker
Simple, yet striking. Ethletic is characterized by its comfortable vegan fabric sneakers. These are produced under fair working conditions in Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan. The materials range from FSC-certified natural rubber from Sri Lanka to Fairtrade organic cotton from small farmers’ plantations in India.
Zweigut: From old to new
The Hamburg-based brand Zweigut manufactures shoes from recycled and upcycled materials. A popular line of the label bears the name “echt”. The shoes of this particular collection line are produced in a family business south of Porto in Portugal. From cork and leather from car seat covers to the outsoles of old and used sneakers, numerous materials are used in the production process. The vegan shoes of Zweigut also feature an in-house vegan icon.
