E-commerce giant Amazon is currently planning a luxury fashion platform. The new project is set to launch this year, first tackling the US market.
As a part of Amazon’s mass-expansion it’s finally the time for them to enter the luxury fashion market. The new platform is said to launch in the first half of 2020 and will offer luxury clothing from external brands. According to the Fashion Business Journal mds an international expansion is imaginable after the roll-out in the US market.
A total of twelve brands are to be involved, which will be introduced on the platform step by step. So far it is not yet known which companies are involved.
Competition for Tmall
Amazon’s direct competitor Alibaba has been active in the luxury fashion segment since 2017. The Chinese online retailer offers fashion products from brands such as Hugo Boss, Burberry, La Mer and Guerlainon its platform Tmall. Amazons coming platform is said to challenge its Chinese competition.
Parallel to the new online platform Amazon seems to be planning a marketing campaign worth 100 million US dollars as well as a new warehouse to be built in Arizona.
